   Do I need a degree or formal qualifications?

   Not for the unskilled subgroup. It exists for permanent roles requiring less than two years of training or experience. Individual employers may still have their own requirements.

   Do I need a job offer before anything can start?

   Yes. The EB-3 process is built around a specific permanent job with a specific US employer. Without that, there is nothing to sponsor.

   How long does it take?

   Realistically, years rather than months, driven mostly by the annual limit on this subgroup. See the processing times page for where the time goes.

   Can my family come with me?

   A spouse and unmarried children under 21 can generally be included. If a child is close to 21, raise it early — timing matters.

   Do I need to speak English?

   There is no general English test for the category, but employers often need a working level for safety and training reasons.

   Can I change employer after I arrive?

   Permanent residents are not tied to the sponsoring employer indefinitely, but leaving too early can raise questions about whether the job offer was genuine. Take advice before making that move.

   What if I have been refused a visa before?

   A previous refusal does not automatically end an application, but it must be disclosed. Concealing it is far more damaging than the refusal itself.
