How Long the EB-3 Process Takes

There is no single answer to how long an EB-3 unskilled case takes, and anyone who gives you a confident number is guessing. The total depends on three separate clocks: how long the labour certification takes, how long USCIS takes to decide the petition, and — usually the longest by far — how long it takes for a visa number to become available for your priority date and country of birth.
Where the time goes
| Stage | What drives the wait |

| Labour certification (PERM) | Recruitment requirements, Department of Labor queues, and whether the case is selected for audit. |
| Immigrant petition (I-140) | USCIS workload at the service centre handling the case. Premium processing may be available. |
| Waiting for a visa number | The annual limit on this subgroup and per-country allocation. This is normally measured in years. |
| Consular stage | Document collection, appointment availability at the post, and administrative processing where it applies. |
The Visa Bulletin
Once a petition is approved, your place in the queue is set by your priority date. Each month the Department of State publishes a Visa Bulletin showing which priority dates are being processed for each category and country. When your date is reached, a visa number is available and the case can move to its final stage.
The bulletin moves forwards and sometimes backwards, so the picture changes. Checking it yourself each month is a good habit.
