EB-3 Visa
The EB-3 Process at a Glance
The whole journey in one view, from confirming eligibility to arriving in the United States.
- Clear steps.
- No surprises.
Each stage depends on the one before it. The full breakdown, with what happens at every step, is on the step-by-step process page.
- 1
Understand eligibility
Confirm the category fits your situation and that you can meet the job's genuine requirements.
- 2
Employer sponsorship
A US employer offers a permanent, full-time role and agrees to sponsor it.
- 3
Labour certification (PERM)
The employer tests the US labour market and files the PERM application with the Department of Labor.
- 4
Immigrant petition (Form I-140)
Once PERM is approved, the employer files the I-140 petition with USCIS.
- 5
Wait for a visa number
Your priority date must become current in the monthly Visa Bulletin. This is usually the longest stage.
- 6
Apply for the visa
Consular processing abroad, or adjustment of status if you are already in the United States and eligible.
- 7
Interview and decision
Attend the interview with your documents and medical examination completed.
- 8
Arrive and begin work
Enter the United States as a permanent resident and start the job you were sponsored for.
Only stages three, four and six are steps you actively file. The rest is preparation and waiting — which is why staying organised matters more than moving fast.
